I never would have imagined myself as a kimono-type gal, but when I saw this one in Nordstrom Rack I was in love.  It's nothing new that I'm drawn to floral patterns, which you can tell by taking one look into my closet, so I shouldn't be so surprised that I decided to give a kimono a go.  What I really like about this one in particular is that the floral print isn't so bright that it screams summer, but it isn't so subdued that I have to wait for fall to bring it out.  Basically, it's versatile enough for multiple seasons which is always a win in my book.

I originally bought this intending to wear it with sleeveless and spaghetti strap dresses when I wanted a little bit more coverage (I have so many dresses that I wouldn't wear without some kind of sweater or cover to the office).  While I still fully intend to do that, I couldn't help but pair it with this basic tee from Loft because it matched so perfectly.  It definitely gives off a boho vibe which isn't usually my thing either, but sometimes you just gotta go with it!

LUSH Haul: Bath Bombs + Bubble Bars

July 27, 2015 Amanda Hollingsworth

It's funny how you learn to live without something for so long, and then when you get it back you wonder how in the world you managed to survive without it.  Case in point, a bath tub.  After living in an apartment for a year that only had a shower, I forgot just how wonderful it was to have a tub.  Sure, my wallet probably thanked me for that year because I had no need for any extra bath products, but sometimes you have to treat yourself!  Plus, having the extra room for shaving your legs is ideal.  If there's one thing I hate more than washing my hair, it's shaving my legs.  Who's with me?

The first thing I did after buying a shower curtain for my new tub was head straight to LUSH to pick up some new bath goodies.  If you've never tried any of their products before, you must do so as soon as possible.  I'm going to try and keep my product hoarding to a minimum so that I actually use what I buy, so here's what I bought to get started!

The Comforter Bubble Bar

When I think of LUSH, this scent is what always comes to mind.  It's officially described as "blackcurrant candy" on the LUSH website, which to me is the perfect amount of sweetness.  I swear I might just take a bite out of it one of these days.  It's my favorite of all their bath products by far so I always pick one up every time I make a trip to the store.  What I like about this one in particular too is that it's huge so you can get multiple baths from the one bar.

Creamy Candy Bubble Bar

Because I wanted to up the sweet factor a notch, I also went with this bubble bar.  If you like vanilla and cotton candy and want to smell like you bathed in sugar, this is the one for you.  There are also chunks of cocoa butter that melt into the water to soften and soothe your skin so it's almost like getting two products for the price of one!

Pop in the Bath Bubble Bar

Every time I look at this bubble bar it instantly makes me happy because it's so darn cute.  And once I pop it in the bath as the name suggests, I'm taken away to a calm and relaxed state of mind.  This one isn't so much sweet but I'm still drawn to the soothing citrus scent.  If citrus isn't normally your thing, don't worry.  It's not so overbearing that you end up smelling like an orange.  Be sure to show this one off on your bathroom vanity until your ready to use it.

Honey Bee Bath Bomb

You know I couldn't deter from my sweet theme for too long.  I've never used this bath bomb before but I couldn't resist purchasing it after getting a whiff of the yummy honey and toffee goodness.  I guess you could say it was love at first ... smell.  As with all bath bombs, I'll just plop it into the water for a single bath and let it work its magic.

Tisty Tosty Bath Bomb

This is another first time purchase for me, and I have to tell you that I had no idea about the love potion story behind this bath bomb at the time.  It's actually quite comical given my current situation ... but that's for another day.  All voodoo aside, if you enjoy rose and floral scents, this is a good bet for you.  It's said to give positive and happy vibes, which I think we can never get enough of.

What are your favorite LUSH bath products?

xoxo,

Amanda

Five Pieces Every Career-Gal Needs in Her Closet

July 25, 2015 Amanda Hollingsworth

Whether you're fresh out of college and looking to land your first job or you're already halfway up the corporate ladder, there are a few fundamental pieces that I think every career-driven gal should have in her wardrobe.  My office environment is pretty casual unless there's a special meeting or event but I know others can require strictly business dress all the time.  No matter your dress code, though, make these pieces the foundation of your work attire and it'll be easy to fill in the spaces with things that showcase your personal style.

1. Pencil Dress.  You might have to go back and read that again.  Yes, I said pencil dress, not pencil skirt.  I love skirts but dresses are so much easier when it comes to getting dressed in the morning.  It's an entire outfit in one piece and very slimming, especially if you look for one with vertical color-block panels on each side.  If you're like me and get tired of the same thing all time, you can easily switch things up with different colored cardigans or shoes!

2. Ankle pants.  Nine times out of ten, if I'm wearing pants to work they're going to be ankle pants.  They're more modern and fresh than your typical dress pants, perfect for all of you #girlbosses out there.  They pair great with either flats or heels, and flowy or fitted tops too, depending on how dressy or casual you want to look.  That versatility means that you have endless outfit possibilities that can be built from this basic piece.  I'm all about color so I own a rainbow variety, but neutrals work just as well.

3. Button-down Chiffon Blouse.  You can never go wrong with a button-down when it comes to your work wardrobe.  After all, you can wear them with any and every skirt or pair of pants if you ever find yourself in a pinch and needing to get out the door quickly.  What I don't like, though, is stiff and boxy fabric.  Enter the chiffon button-down.  It has the looser fit that I crave but looks polished and put together at the same time.  My absolute favorite is the Portofino top from Express, and of course I have a rainbow variety of these as well.  They also come in fun prints and patterns, which look great layered under sweaters in the cooler months.

4. Comfortable Heels.  The amount of walking you do in a work day is probably more than you think, from the car to the office, back and forth to the printer, you get the idea.  I know everyone talks about sacrificing comfort for beauty, but please do yourself a favor and leave your feet out of that!  You may think you're fine an hour in, but come late afternoon those four-inch spike stilettos will be off your feet.  Whenever I buy a new pair of heels, I test them out around the house to be sure I can stand in them for long periods of time.  Just be careful not to scuff the soles so that they can be returned if necessary.

5. Trouser Jeans.  For casual days at the office, a pair of trouser jeans will keep you from wavering too close to that line between sloppy and relaxed.  I know I said I was all about ankle pants earlier, but sometimes you have to let your ankles breathe!  You'll be amazed at how different wide-legged pants look versus skinny pants, but sometimes a change like that is necessary to keep your wardrobe updated and you feeling inspired about what to wear.

What are your must-have pieces for your work wardrobe?

xoxo,

Amanda

I typically shy away from any kind of white clothing because I am OCD and have to look at my shirt every five seconds as it is to make sure nothing is on it, so can you imagine that mixed with the easiest color there is to show dirt?  Torture is what that would be, torture.  Because ultimately, something will spill or splatter and I won't be able to stop thinking about it until I'm able to get home and can throw it in the wash.  So you can say that me buying this pair of white denim shorts was a huge breakthrough in my path to recovery.

All exaggeration aside, I really am glad that I picked these up.  I've been wearing shorts a lot this summer, more than I usually do, so a white pair is nice to have for dressier occasions or when I want something besides typical blue jeans.  And with this top, the ruffle around the hem is perfect for hiding any tummy you may want to conceal without having to be super loose and baggy.  When I saw these two together, I instantly thought of an orange creamsicle, which I think are really gross btw.  I'm just letting out all of my crazy today.  But these colors are perfect for summer and so I'll just stick to wearing creamsicle colors instead of eating them.

Five Tips for a Successful Photo Shoot

July 20, 2015 Amanda Hollingsworth

Whether you're a fashion blogger taking outfit photos daily or a lifestyle blogger in need of stock photos, photo shoots are a huge part of maintaining a blog.  If you're just starting out, the idea of stepping in front of the camera may be a bit daunting to say the least.  And even if you're a seasoned blogger, I think there's always room to learn something new.  I've been at this for a little over a year now and while I'm no pro, I have definitely seen improvement in my photos thanks to a few things that I've learned along the way.  I hope you are able to use these tips in your next photo shoot and make it your best one yet!

1. Be prepared.  This may seem obvious but preparation is absolutely necessary if you want your shoot to go off without a hitch.  Every detail from the location where you'll take photos down to the smallest accessory you'll be wearing should be thought out.  I start with a list on paper and then pull my outfits the night before so I know how everything looks once it's all put together.  Chances are you'll be photographing multiple looks at once, so if you have everything you need ready, you won't risk leaving anything behind.

2. Practice your pose.  Acting natural in front of the camera is much easier said than done, especially when you're first starting out.  I don't know what it is about a little lens that makes us change our behavior, but it certainly does and can come through in your photographs.  As silly as it sounds, I've overcome this by striking pose after pose in front of the mirror (while rocking out to Taylor Swift) to see what looks best and find my most flattering angle.  Over time you'll learn what works best for you and it'll all come second nature.  Until then, keep practicing - Taylor Swift music optional.

3. Confidence is key.  They say practice makes perfect, but that won't matter if you don't have confidence to get out there and actually strike that pose in front of the camera.  Even the shyest person in the world could have the fiercest pose in her back pocket, but if you read that lack of confidence on her face, it'll change the photo completely.  I can wholeheartedly vouch for this because I was, and sometimes still am, that shy person.  Actually, taking photos regularly has helped break me out of my shell.  You have to be ready to handle whatever may come at you during your shoot, like people walking by on the sidewalk while you're mid-pose.  Having the confidence to keep going and not care what they think will make all the difference.

4. Know your photographer.   I know everyone can't be as lucky as I am to have my BFF be my photographer, but nonetheless you should take the time to get to know them.  It'll help with your confidence too, because you won't feel like you're working with a complete stranger.  My photographer and I obviously have a great relationship being that we are already friends, and that's a huge reason why my photos turn out so well.  If you are going to be working with someone new, meet up for coffee before your shoot to not only discuss the vision of how you want things to go but also just to get to know a little bit more about the person behind the camera.

5. Have fun!  This is my favorite tip because a photo shoot shouldn't be something you dread doing, and there's no point in taking photos if it's not fun for you!  I know it's definitely what I love most about blogging.  The same holds true for other blogs I read, because I'm always drawn to those where the photos look like a glimpse into the blogger's life as opposed to something forced.  The more fun you have during your shoot, the more it will radiate through your photos and blog and draw in new readers.  So throw on some music and do your thing, and don't forget to laugh in between all of your serious faces.

And because I couldn't contain myself to just five tips, I decided throw in a bonus one for good measure!  If I had to pick the one thing that's the trickiest when it comes to photo shoots, especially those with multiple outfit changes, it's where the in world are you going to change clothes?  You definitely want to consider this when planning your location.  I can say that I've done everything from change in the car to walking right into a restaurant bathroom to change.  Honestly, most places are pretty cool about it if you just ask!  But if you find yourself out where there aren't many businesses around, a roomy backseat may be your best option.  As long as you're flexible with it (literally and figuratively, space may be tight) it should be on to the next!
